Yup. Hell, I'm probably guilty of spouting this BS myself. I felt so sorry for these people, sure they may have a 5 story mansion, Bentley in the driveway, 22-year old lingerie model in the hot-tub and a Scrooge McDuck money bin, but they will never know the happiness of one day petting a tiger!

They are already in paradise
by Xanthippe indo you remember going door to door and if you went to a beautifil home with a beautiful garden often the person with you would say -'these wont want to hear the message, they already have their paradise'?.
it seems to me that was what a lot of the message of the new system was about.
who wouldn't want to choose a beautiful part of the world and build your own house on it without paying for the land or building materials?.

Who (not what) is your guilty pleasure? (Controversial favorites)
by Terry inwe all have somebody we are crazy about that almost everybody can't stand.. if you mention their name your companions give you that "look" (ya know the one, like you just got caught picking your nose!).
i was thinking about this the other day.
i was truly curious if i'm mental or if everybody has a guilty pleasure list like i do.. i'm just going to assume we all do until you set me straight.. if you attach a photo and short explanation about why you like these pariahs it will be more meaningful.. .

Charles Bukowski:
Skid Row laureate. Voice of the voiceless. Good ole' boy who kept low to the ground. All-around asshole.
Richard Dawkins:
His way of explaining life is far more meaningful than any religious nonsense I've ever read.
Ernest Hemingway:
Wrote about being a man. Also, Papa got drunk and machine gunned sharks in the Caribbean.
Louis CK:
For me, the most real comedian since Carlin and Hicks.
George Orwell:
Brilliant and prophetic. The guy everyone quotes but nobody heeds.
I have many, many more favorites but i'll keep it short.

Do the elders have "clear direction" that it's ok to use an ipad at meetings?
by nochoice ini read this post more than a year ago: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/212313/1/watchtower-publications-for-ipad.
since i saw it, i've been waiting for the first brother or sister to show up at the hall with an ipad to see what happens.
a little here and there at the conventions and assemblies.

I knew a snobby, materialistic elder who once did the announcements reading from his Blackberry. (back when Blackberrys were considered "elitist" technology).
He couldn't just put the phone on the podium and read off it discreetly. No, he had to hold it up in the air so everyone could see that it was a Blackberry.

Survey: Who here is an atheist? Who here still believes in God?
by Christ Alone ini just wanted to take a survey.
let's not let this get into the same old same old debate of atheism vs belief.
just respond with "atheist" or "believer" or "maybe god exists".

My introduction/experience
by happy@last ini have only just recently found this site, in fact only recently gone online to do research of my own about jws.
before i left i had only gone on my gut instinct, not even realising i was not alone with my feelings.
the week i was appointed an elder some 11 years ago, i had had to write to a congregation many miles away from me about how unloving they were (more details below).. not long after i started to have concerns about jws, expecially as the message of 'following the bibles message' subtly changed to 'follow the fds', this did not sit well with me.

Would Watchtower Elders Disfellowship You For Participating in Zumba Dance? What Do You Think?
by Scott77 inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bilinvla-lo.

Mr. Falcon
Two Watchtower elders can hide behind that to peep through inside and watch a sister to establish beyound question if she was dancing brazenly or just so and so. Forgive me, I do not know if that Lead Dancer is a jehovah's Witnesses sister or not.
Good point. And I also suspect that the two elders watching this class behind the scenes probably have their pants off. Just a hunch.

once again, it would be left up to individual elder bodies. Some won't give a shart, others will go full Joseph McCarthy on anyone invovled in Zumba.
This is what happens when a group of men ordain themselves with such authority. And people are mindless enough to follow them.

Need Advice. Quick.
by AwSnap ini apologize for being absent for so long.
i've got a jw at my house right now (unexpectedly) who is talking to my husband.
he keeps on bringing up that only jw's have universal love....that if you go anywhere in the world, you can mention you're a witness & you'll automatically be welcomed and accepted by fellow jw's.
-
Mr. Falcon
Just shut the damn door on that JW. That seems to be the only thing they understand.
